The first couple of days at home have been good. The first night at home was a little painful but we think Michelle has her pain pill schedule down now. Yesterday Mom came over to take care of Michelle so that Jake could go back to work and today I’m in charge (ha, ha!!!). Yesterday Michelle’s friends Kerry and Erin came over to wash her hair and paint her nails. Today Jake’s Dad and Dian will bring dinner by. She is scheduled to see her doctors and physical therapist next week and we will keep you posted on how her recovery is coming along. We are going to try to post some of the pictures from last week in the next couple of days. Thanks for all the wonderful messages, she loves hearing from everyone. Michelle told me the highlight of her day is walking to the computer and checking her messages, so please keep them coming!! Thanks for the prayers and support!

This morning Michelle’s doctor came in with her pathology reports. The tests showed that the tumor was actually 5.5 cm…….that’s huge! This puts her at a Stage 3. The good news is that miraculously out of the 26 lymph nodes they removed, only 2 had cancer cells, which is nothing shy of a miracle given the size of the tumor! This is the best news we could have gotten!!!! All your prayers worked and for that we are eternally grateful. Her treatment will consist of chemotherapy and radiation. Michelle will meet with her Oncologist on July 7^th and he will design a treatment plan. She has been given orders to go home today and get some rest. I know a lot of people want to visit and help out. We appreciate this so much but please call Jake first to check on how Michelle is feeling first. She is still so weak but remains polite, she tries so hard to stay awake while people have been at the hospital (despite of what we tell her) but her doctors have mentioned that the best way to get better is to sleep and rest. Her body has been through so much in the last few days, her surgeon mentioned she will be weak and fragile for a good 4-6 weeks. Please keep up the prayers and messages to Michelle. She hopes to have enough strength soon to start responding to her messages and even post her own updates. She loves hearing from everyone! Again, thank you for all the support and prayers!!

As of Friday at 2:00 pm Michelle is starting to feel a little better. Last night she was feeling very nauseous, but has bounced back since then. She slept decently well last night (thank God for Valium!) and even asked me to do her hair and make up this morning. Both her surgeons have been in to see her today and they are very happy with the way the wounds are starting to heal. At first they thought she would go home today but later felt that it would be better to keep her here one more day. We are working to build up her strength, I took her for a walk, we made it to the elevator and that was enough for her to need a well deserved nap. Michelle will have her pathology test results back tomorrow, we are hoping and praying for the best but know she’ll overcome anything!

Michelle is SO grateful for all her messages! We’ve got the computer right here next to her bed and I keep reading her all the messages that are being posted!!! She absolutely loves it! Please keep them coming, she loves to hear from everyone. Don’t forget if you register you’ll receive regular updates. The REGISTER link is at the bottom of the main page!

Her room looks like a flower shop, she feels so fortunate. Her co-workers came by to see her earlier this afternoon and dropped off a huge basket full of goodies! Michelle was so excited.

UPDATE: as of 8 p.m. PST - Michelle is resting in her own room at the Mayo Hospital. Michelle is surrounded by her parents, siblings and boyfriend, Jake. Please send your continued prayers and support!

UPDATE: as of 4 p.m. PST - Michelle’s is out of surgery and in recovery.

UPDATE: as of 1 p.m. PST - Michelle’s sister Carol just sent out the following update on Michelle’s progress during her surgery today:

The first surgeon just came out and let us know that the surgery was a success, but unfortunately, cancer was found in her lymph nodes. Many have asked if they can come to the hospital to visit Michelle, but we would ask that you just give us a day to deal with this as a family and give Michelle a few hours to gather her thoughts and strength.
